Tips From Selena Gomez’s Stylist!

I ran across this on InStyle’s website, and wanted to share it with you since I love all of these tips.

1. Wear White All Year Round. I love this piece of advice because white goes with so much. I only advise being care with white shoes in the states and parts of the world that have brutal winters. Here in Wisconsin, when the snow falls and there is a new coat of it, it’s white, pristine and sparkling. But then the plows come through and the pretty snow turns into a dirty, wet mess that gets all over whatever shoes you are wearing. The exception to this is white winter boots. They’re made to fend off cold and wet, so the white will stay cleaner for a longer period of time. If in doubt, pick up a can of shoe protecting spray and give your shoes a good 3 coats of it.

2. Dress Up Your Shorts. This doesn’t mean denim shorts, ladies. This means cotton, nylon, polyester, and other fabrics. This is a great spring thru mid-fall tip, but if you live in cold climates, I recommend pants in the winter months. There is nothing stylish about it being 10 degrees outside, snowing and windy, and walking around in a pair of shorts. Add heels to this look to give your legs length and tone. A great lacy top or floral top is what I would pair on top.

3. Go For Edgy Nail Colors. You can paint your nails however you want with today’s trends and they’ll look cool. My favorite nail color is black, with chrome and charcoal coming in close behind. Have fun with it, and paint your nails different colors. If you are doing two colors on each hand, avoid doing your middle finger as the separate color. Do it on your ring finger or little finger instead. Or, alternate colors. Paint each nail the same color and then do polka dots in a contrasting color.

4. When In Doubt, Wear Pumps. This advice isn’t for everyone, since not everyone likes pumps. I happen to wear them daily. If pumps aren’t for you, but you’d like a heel, try a short heel or a kitten heel. If you aren’t a heel person, go for a nice, dressy flat.

5. Have A Signature Accessory. My signatures are my shoes and my leather jacket. I am always wearing the highest heel no matter where I go. My leather jacket is with me from late summer to mid-spring. I’ve had it since I was 14. I recommend everyone having a signature piece or accessory. It helps you stand out from the crowd. Maybe you love necklaces. Be the girl that always has on a cool necklace. Maybe you just can’t get enough handbags. Don’t throw away your bags, keep them! You’ll build a nice collection of them to choose from when you are going someplace that you want your signature to be known. The same goes for bracelets, earrings, rings, sunglasses, scarves… you name it!

6. Pair Comfy Tops With Sleek Bottoms. A sleek bottom is anything fitted or tailored nicely. Skinny pants of any kind are a great example of this. If you are going someplace that you want to look nice but feel comfortable in your clothes, grab a pair of skinny pants, a nice flowing top and a great pair of shoes.

7. Go Nautical. This is one trend that will never go out of style. Stripes, navy and red will always be around and will always look fresh and put together. Pair a shirt with black stripes with dark denim, add some red accessories, and you’ll have a great nautical look!

8. Punch Up Your Look With Bold Shoes. This is my favorite piece of advice. One thing I love doing is adding a bold, bright pair of shoes to my outfit. Your shoes don’t have to be a single color or pattern to do this. They can be several colors, patterns, prints and textures. If you are going for this look, make sure that the patterns in the shoes don’t clash with the patterns in your outfit. Go for a sleek top and bottom pairing, and then add in your bold shoes.

Selena Gomez is one of my favorite young people in Hollywood. She has amazing style and always stays true to herself. As she gets older, I think we are going to see amazing things from her from fashion to singing to movies!

Stay Sweet,
